Can anyone remember the name of the lady SJ rider who painted her grey horse in squares of different colours and entered the Fancy Dress Stakes at Olympia as a Rubiks Cube many years ago?
Arose out of a conversation and I just can't recall - I think her husband rode as well but might be wrong about that

I can't remember her but I was there the year when Franke Sloothak was towed round on a pair of ski's behind one of his team mates as Eddie the Eagle.

That was when it was invented, but I believe it didn't become a craze in the UK until after 1980. I would be impressed if Veronique Whitaker's use of the motif pre-dated that!

By 1981 it had been well at the top of UK toy sales for some years, my brother in law started 'The Entertainer' toy shop chain with the store in Amersham, he bought out another local stores left over Rubik's cubes and sold them all really cheaply. They would have been around a few years by then. I bought one from him and then spent many frustrating hours trying to work it out.

Sigh. I never intended this to get into an argument about the cube but....according to Wikipaedia it was invented in 1974 but licensed to a big corporation to produce in 1980, who I imagine went to town on the marketing. So could have been any time from 1974 on - my impression is that it would have been around the late '70s/early '80s when she did her horse as one.

I think it was the early to mid '80s if my memory of the time is correct :)

I've googled her name and Rubiks cube in various forms and conformations and it's not producing anything.
Had no intention of 'arguing about Rubiks cube, but was trying to narrow down the time frame.

I read an article on the BBC website about your brother in law a few weeks ago, Tnavas, he seems like a lovely man. This thread really has gone off on a tangent hasn't it!

Googled it and found this thread plus the question you put on Oldie Showjumper page on FB so no idea. Can't remember seeing it and am old.
