I only know one chap in the whole of Bath who rides. Don't know him apart from knowing he has a nice bay mare. Always polite. Very cute.

Not at all disrespecting our womenfolk that ride, but why are horses (which was a manly sport) now seen as "gay" or "girly"?

You see men at high levels but in my 22 years of riding, I've only known a handful of chaps that still ride past the "mother made me" stage and actually love it.

What's wrong with riding as a sport?

Goodness knows! OH rides, mainly sj, but some dressage now. Around here with the sj it is usually girls up to 1.05 and newcomers when the men seem to come out! I don't know if they are more talented, or if they just like to jump the bigger tracks! The larger heights don't always see the better riders though! Dressage is very much ladies though, often OH is the only man at the comp!!

what I would like to know is what happens to all these males riders between early teens and top show jumper? Where are they riding?

Goodness knows, they seem to disappear off the radar! My oh spent 12 - 29 riding and breaking racehorses, only with his own horse freshly broken from about 26 and started sj. Recently I have been having lessons with a legendary instructor which has got OH into dressage. Perhaps younger lads are more subject to peer pressure and so drop the horsey stuff or have their heads turned by the macho stuff?! For some reason horsey young girls and teens are more generally accepted as usual?

its like cooking.....cooking is a 'womans' thing and most men dont/cant do it but all the top chefs are men!
I think with the rise in pony racing there will be more and more boys getting involved, however chances are they'll stick with racing and hunting afterwards.

I know lots of men that ride ;) A lot of them hunt and then there are some like these guys...

I think they'd run a mile if anyone suggested they put hunting kit on though :D

I know quite a few men who ride.

And I'd love to watch you tell some of them that riding is girly! A number are very macho types, soldiers, boxers, rock climbers etc.

LOL all the men that I know that ride look like these guys too!

I only know a couple of men that ride, both friends OH's. I knew a few guys at college, but most of them were gay! My OH rode for the first time the other day, he now seems VERY keen to have another go so he may be another man to ride soon! I see a boy come into the place I work in his jodhpurs and boots, he must only be about 10 though so not finding it embarrassing yet!
