Men. Jodhpurs, Breeches etc

My ex used to wear tights under his racing breeches, he had a bright pink pair :)

I like a man in full hunting gear myself.

Perhaps we could see some pics gentlemen ?

As requested...be afraid...very afraid...

This is obviously my showing garb....if im riding after work then its whatever ive got on..usually hi viz trousers and half chaps!!! Not a good look apparently.

I always wear short Ariat boots for dressage and schooling though.

OH wears jeans and rimfrost riders at home and mark todd competition breeches when eventing , i did once buy him a pair of jods , his instructor fell about ...said he looked like a sparrow in tights .....

I hit the wrong button and only posted half the post. I was writing on my phone and it wouldn't let me edit post so had to turn laptop on, by then my 15 mins of edit time had expired. Doh.
What i was trying to say was, it is a genuine question about what men wear out hacking.
I don't post much on horse related stuff, i leave that to my wife.
Thanks for all the answers that you gave.
May be if i do invest in a pair of breeches i will post a picture ;)

I started learning in B&Q wellies with tracksuit pants, these days I rarely visit the yard without breeches and yard boots.

I'm supposed to to change from the yard boots into short boots and chaps if I'm riding, but most of the time I don't bother and keep the yard boots on (Tuffa Sussex) for which I get told off! lol

I wear Pikeur or Cavallo breeches (nothing else fits me!) and long boots.
Why don't you ask the ladies what they want us (men) to wear???

There is a picture of my OH in his show gear on my profile I've not got any hacking or schooling ones on here, but I can try to pop one on when I'm on the PC, he just wear Mountain Horse boots instead of the posh ones with garter straps and a polo shirt or rugby shirt instead of the jacket for casual.

I lament the choices we gents are offered in breeches - we only seem to get plain ones in a choice of up to 5 rather ordinary colours. Ladies stuff comes in just about any colour and pattern you care to imagine! Where's the justice? ;op

Thanks everyone, I hope you've helped my cause!! As the "missus" of Nostromo, I have been politely asking (OK - nagging!) him for yonks about wearing a pair of breeches. Trouble is, he omitted telling you that he doesn't actually favour tight clothing hence his current "look" (no laughing ;))

At 6'1" he makes our 16hh Clydie X look like a pony but they do make a lovely pair, pootling off for a gentle amble together ....

I've been trying to convince him that a more snug pair of appropriate riding trousers will help his seat too as he may not slide around in the saddle so much .... will let you know in due course whether you've all been successful in your persuasion! :D

Definitely worth investing in a pair of decent breeches - makes a huge difference both in comfort and performance. I have a pair of old Holland & Holland cord breeches for hacking out that are awesome, but I'm dreading when they wear out as they don't make them anymore. Then it's buff for hunting and white for competition.

Only problem is that they cost so bl00dy much. Have a look on ebay though and you'll soon find a pair to suit.

Hate to see anybody ride in jogging bottoms, though. To me it says complete beginner or the type of individual that is likely to do a rubbish job of tarmacing your drive and from the pic, you look like neither!

I could have nightmares about men in baby pink breeches!

Nostromo, really try some proper equestrian legwear. You will look better, feel better and ride better. Big baggy joggers can't feel nice, and to be honest they look a bit daft, you would look so much better in breeches or jodhs.

Get the proper kit, just like you would for any other sport. Don't be afraid of snug fitting clothing, men wear worse for cycling, running, swimming, etc. You don't see Bradley Wiggins or Chris Hoy training in baggy joggers to protect their modesty! It is a sport and the proper kit is there to help you get the best performance.

Try a pair of breeches with a pleat front if you want to protect your modesty, Mark Todd and Oliver Townend both do good ones. OH finds they aren't supportive enough and thinks they make him look lanky so he goes for the closer fitting ones, but I think you'd find anything an improvement on what you are wearing now. You can always put the joggers on over the top for mucking out etc, that is what the teenage lad on our yard does, he rides in jodhs with short boots but throws joggers or baggy jeans on once he's out of the saddle.

ReefingsDad totally agree, OH is in the same situation trying to keep his ancient saddlemaster jodhs alive as they have stopped making them and he can't find any others he likes as much. The only ones he has seen that look promising are Oliver Townend ones that cost 4x more than I would pay for jodhs.

I'm wearing a pair of trousers in the photos, my lovely wife has posted. They look a bit more like plus 4s though, when wearing half chaps.

I always wear breeches and long leather boots. Have done for years (not the same pair!). I find breeches don't last so well these days. First pairs lasted for nearly 20 years and still looked good. The manufacturers must have woken up.

I do remember when in my 20's going into a saddlers to get a black pair. It was more like Grace Brothers. A woman in her fifties with horn rimmed glasses served me and made the comment "aren't they a little tight for sir?".

First time I wore them down the yard I got wolf-whistled and there were some shouts of "Neuryev"!

Maybe she was right...

Nostromo, whilst my opinion on the leg wear is:what you feel most comfortable in(tho I do think joggers look a mess and amateurish and reckon if you find the right pair of comfy breeches you'll never look back...) I had to post to say your horse is beautiful and in the second photo, she looks so happy with you, striding out, mane and white feathers flowing!:)
