Have you had a dog that's had meningitis and did they go on to make a full recovery?
My greyhound was really poorly, very high temperature letharic and was limping. He went to the vets and was kept in overnight on a drip also had antibiotics, he came home the following day but the vet had no idea what the problem was. Blood and urine didn't show anything significant. Nutty finished the antibiotics and had been showing small signs of improvement every day but was a long way off being right.
Two days after finishing his tablets he started to go downhill incredibly fast, I got him to the vets, from the car he was able to walk if supported within 15 mins he couldn't walk at all this time his temperature was even higher, again he stayed in, fluid drip, a cool coat, an injection to help lower his temperature, a fan and ice blocks round him, they managed to get his temperature down by .7 initially then once a new course of antibiotics had a chance to work he started to pick up. His legs were more controlled and generally brighter.
Obviously I had several conversations with the vet and he feels that it is/was bacterial meningitis and will need a longer course of antibiotics to ensure it is properly dealt with though Nutty is almost back to his usual self, just some very slight balance problems from time to time.

Thanks Dobiegirl, luckily my boy is making a good recovery but a small balance issue but he's going to be on antibiotics for a while I think though a small price to pay to have him well.
