My horse has been lame for a month now and finally went for his work-up today. Looks like he has damaged his stifle. Gotta have bone scan to confirm but looking like he's probably got a meniscal tear and will need arthroscopy followed by 6wks box rest followed by 6mths in a paddock followed by a slow return to work and a 60% chance of a return to full work assuming it's just a grade I tear. He is only 1/10 lame, but cannot canter without looking extremely awkward. He is only 7 and is the best hunter in the world and finally we were starting to crack the dressage too. I'm so gutted.

Does anyone have any nice success stories they could tell me to try and cheer me up?

Mine has done 6 weeks box rest and now is on 6 weeks in small paddock - not tear but arthroscopy in stifle , chip removal and cartilage (sp!) trimming. Box rest was ok; field rest is a littel bit more exciting - lots of airs above ground.....but is looking sound..... everything crossed for you.
