I wear Ariat Bromonts. Had my pair for nearly three years and they are only just showing signs of wear along the seam of the zip/stretch panel bit

But uncomfortable to start with but once broken in they are great

I actually find the opposite can be the problem with traditional zipless boots - for me as a relative duffer my feet and ankles can move a lot and it's trickier getting an accurate leg aid on while pinning my legs and heels down to keep a secure seat.

It depends... Are you so well endowed you'll need to tuck yourself into one of your boots? If so, I'd advocate an elastic panel for comfort.
