Hi,

We recently got a lovely Labrador boy puppy, bred from working lines, who is now 13 weeks old. He is fully vaccinated etc. and hence is enjoying short daily walks however having been advised that during the first year or so of his life whilst his bones are growing he must have limited exercise these walks are understandably not expending much of his energy.

He has been attending puppy class since 8 weeks old so he has mini training sessions each day however I wondered if anyone could suggest what else I could do to mentally stimulate him, perhaps any games?

Thank you all in advance :-)

Nina ottason toys are good. Stuffed Kong's, hide toys treats etc round house for him to search out. A paddling pool in garden with toys in is good in hot weather.

Thank you very much for your reply! I will look up the toys you suggested and will get him a kong and paddling pool to play in, thanks again :-).

The best stimulation for any dog is another dog. Two pups will play together, cuddle each other, be good friends and be there for each other when the humans have to go out.
I would never keep a dog on its own.

I have the same with my Cocker Spaniel who I believe is also working lines. I bought a Kong wobbler and stuff that with things. I have made her an ice lolly (she's on the RAW diet) out of blood and water and a cube of food inside it and that takes ages and ages of licking to keep her amused so great in the hot weather.

I bought this book.

and we work though it. She's learnt Paw and Roll over from it and we are learning how to bow and crawl at moment.

Pets At Home are doing agility kits at the moment and we bought a jump and tunnel to play with in the garden and she has a small cone from them which was like 50p and she does target practise where she has to go on command to knock it over with her paw and then come back and get a treat, which she loves.

Hide and seek with another family member is always fun especially when they are hiding with treats!

Yikes - Sorry pic is so big!

Thank you very much, there's lots there for me to try with him! I really appreciate all your advice, I'll make sure he has plenty to keep him occupied and happy :-)
