Mercedes 811D horsebox- Any experience?

As above really! Any experience? A friend is looking at getting a new box and one has come up at a bargain price, but she doesn't want to be buying problems! Experiences hugely appreciated.

Provided it's been well used and looked after it will be fine. Mercedes are pretty bulletproof (which is why all the UPS trucks are Mercs!) maybe slightly more expensive for parts but that is the only downside, they keep going forever.

We have one and love it. The mechanics always comment on what a good chassis to have chosen and its reasonable to run.

I had a Mercedes horsebox not this model it was a 709D and it was fab - I had to reluctantly sell it . No major problems or bills in the 5 years I have known it. 3 with me and 2 with a friend I sold it to.

Now am in a position to look again I would definitely consider one again.

Not an 811, ours is a 1314, but as above they are pretty much bulletproof! Ours is a G reg & going strong.

Not the quickest, but totally reliable & gets everywhere under his own steam. One of very few lorries not to need towed out of Blair this year.

I wouldn't want anything other than Merc or Volvos if I can help it.

Only thing is that they tend to be a heavier chassis than your daf's etc, so make sure you check the weight.

I have a merc and its a trouper. Has had no major probs and a lot less probs than ivecos and dafs i know of similar ages.
