Hi,

Does anyone own a mercedes horsebox? How reliable are they?

I know of one for sale, E reg, 3.5 ton. Do they have any common problems?
What sort of price would you pay?

Thanks.

I have a merc 608d. She is 6.5 tonne and her unladen weight is 3.2 on the weight cert.

The only bits that have rust on are the front bottom edges of the cab, bottoms of doors and the edge of the windows. Not much rust though just patches of it in bubbles. The chassis is solid and my mechanic that checked her out said the chassis will out live me!

Been told that the engines go on forever and are built for work. Parts are not as expensive as people make out and everything is available from merc dealers for all models however old they are.

Would recommend you get someone who knows what they are doing to check all over the wagon especially the floors.

Cool, thanks for the replies.

I am off to have a look at it tomorrow with a mate who works on lorry's day in day out, just wanted to know where they rusted really.

Hopefully fingers crossed all will be good :)

mercedes are one of the best for boxes but chasis are heavy so the payload is generally very low so you cant carry alot.
