Mercedes lorries ?

I've heard they are supposed to be reliable but can be expensive for parts and repairs. They are also a heavy chassis.

Hi, we have a merc lorry, a 814 highly recommend them, its starts everytime no probs, in all weathers and the parts are not too dear for servicing etc,

old 814s etc seemed to lean a fair bit on the corners when we tried one, but had a beaver(sp) tail one for many years and it was fairly reliable.

I've got an R reg 814, and LOVE it, its really easy to drive, good on fuel (well it was until the price went up LOL!!) and is a really smooth ride for my horses, Mine is really low mileage (117000KM with a full dealer service history) and I do take it back to mercedez for its services, so pay over the odds for that, but figure if I look after it it should just keep running.

What age are you looking at? as i can try & find out if there is anything particular to look out for that might cause problems

One thing to mention, the engines are designed to do a million miles before they are worn out, but the turbos may need replacing, although they aren't 'that' expensive (forgotten what I was quoted for a new one.... don't think I need one but have a paranoid dad!)

I can't recommend them enough, I had an Iveco before & although it was older, it just wasn't a patch on the mercedez, and the mercedez do have a really good resale value, so something to bear in mind

my mechanic said the 814 are good but does not like the atego's.

I have a an old 813!! 1983 but was coachbuilt so not many miles.....never let me down to date, mechanically I have been told by one friend that they just keep on going, one he knows of had done over half a million miles lol!!! - chassis are heavy and they are not fast lorries, but definately weight carriers.

I love mine, she is solid, easy to drive, wicked turning circle, parts wise not needed any other than fuses which I got sent from abroad in 5 days via ebay for £4!

Can use a little oil but diesel wise VERY economical I have found to date and thats doing silly short trips etc. Starts everytime first time.

I've got a C-reg 814 that has been extremely reliable and had to have very little done mechanically over the past 4 years that I've owned her. Drives brilliantly and I'm finding it was more economical on fuel than the new DAF that I've just bought.

It's now for sale as I've downsized so if anyone's looking for nice Mercedes give me a shout!
