I have been lucky enough to have my horse selected for a free gastrosope through my vet, who is holding a 'Gastroscopy' day, sponsored by Merial.
As I have recieved limited information from my vet, can anyone tell me what to expect from the scoping process? All I have been told is to starve him in advance and that he will be sedated.
Thanks in advance for any info.

There isn't much more to tell!

They are sedated but standing and awake, then the endoscope is passed up the nose and into the stomach, you can see it all on video and hey take some stil pics, then the scope is removed. It takes less than 20 mins start to finish and is very low-stress for the horse.

James Bowdler - Church Stretton/Shrops. He is fab and although relatively young is a real horseman through and through.
We are having a free lecture/lunch on 'Gastric ulcers', which is being done by Merial, who I believe make Gastro guard, and then getting the scopes done after.
My vet sent out fliers a few weeks ago offering the free scoping and I was on the phone straight away. I have suspected my chap is suffering from ulcers for a while and was going to book a scope in for him anyhow, so good timing!
My only concern is if he does have a positive scope, as I know the treatment is very expensive and he is not insured, but will cross that bridge when we come to it.....

hi there my horse has had 3 gatsroscopes so far the horse needs to be fasted from 8 pm from the night before as they need to have an empty stomach for the scoping to be sucessful
