meroth leather bit

Have no idea what you're talking about.

I once broke in a horse whose owner had provided a loose-ring, straight-bar, snaffle with mouthing keys in the middle. The mouthpiece was covered with leather, with a gap for the keys. The leather makes the bit feel softer that's all, similar to the effect of a rubber covered bit.

Don't know if that helps at all.

Just looking on google, it says it is used widely in Europe, and the general consensuses is that they are very kind and reliable.

I saw a discussion about this bit on Facebook - As Seen Between the Horses Ears. I thought what would happen if you had to get off and lead? How would you stop it from sliding over the jaw, or worse, getting stuck on the teeth and causing a panic? Weird.

I like it

It would be fab for my pony, who is head/bridle shy and has such a sensitive mouth you could ride her with cotton for reins.
But on my TB it would be suicide on grass or when jumping, hes just far too hot. He would probably love it on the flat but as soon as he sees a jump, he starts to get strong and excited and all reasoning goes out the window!

I can see one massive benefit.... Less tack to clean!

haha that is a huge benefit! So much quicker :D

Thats where I saw it. I think the way it works is apparantly, mostly on the jaw. I think it goes behind the teeth and just sits there. I think it cant move forward cos its held in place behind the teeth, thats what it looked like but I could be wrong

I wondered that...then it would surely mean constant pressure on the bars? I guess it doesn't need to be tight?

Think it sits behind the teeth so cant move forward? I thought more pressure on the tongue?
