Ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I have had my rescue collie cross since she was 6 months old, shes now 10.
In all that time we have always had a problem with her messing in the house. She tends to have phases of it. She used to piddle on the bed regularly, so I put a stair gate up to prevent her going upstairs. All well and good except is has not stopped her messing during the night.
I would'nt mind so much but last night for example, they were let out for bedtime toilet at 12am, I got up for the toilet myself at 4am and she had peed on the landing. I got up at 7am, let her out and then at 8.30am I hear my husband shouting at her and she had peed and pooped upstairs. No excuse. I was downstairs, she had been out and could have gone out again but did'nt.
She will do it regardless of wether we are there or not. If she can get downstairs during the night she will do it without fail. If she can get out of the bedroom at night 9/10 she will do it. Yet if I shut the bedroom door she is usually clean.
She has no health issues, other than she does have arthritus and has monthly injections for this.
Its driving me mad.

No advice I'm afraid but that does sound really annoying!! My dog has the occasional pee on the landing if she can't be bothered to come and tell us she wants to go out. Naughty doggy!! she is only young though so I hope she grows out of it. Sorry I'm not much help!

Is she 10 years or 10 months? Sometimes as dogs get older they do slip a bit in their house training - although if she has always done it thats not the excuse. To be quite honest I've never heard of this. Is she clean during the day. It sounds like when she is let out she is not going to the loo. It might be worth going out with her , like house training a young puppy, and giving her a command until she does something, then lots of praise. In a puppy I would always suggest a cage for this sort of problem but if she is old? with arthritis, it would seem a bit unfair. Have you spoken to your vet about it - possibly the arthritis medication could be changed. Sorry no real answers there, hopefully someone else might be able to help.

She is 10 years. Its nothing to do with her arthritus medication, its something she has always done. She has no other medical problems at all. Her arthritus isnt really an issue either, she is just a tiny bit stiff when she firsts gets up but the injections have stopped that.

sounds like a dominance thing to me! we've got a dog training school and peeing on the bed is a classic example of it!! sounds severe (it not though!) but have you thoght of putting a cage in your bedroom if thats where she sleps?? they wont do it on their bed unless there's a medical reason usually because they dont like to lie in it. at least then you will know for sure!! some people say cages are cruel but the dogs actually find them really comforting, its a safe place for them to go when they are tired!

Dominant? Blimey I would never have thought that. She is the most unassuming dog you would ever meet.
I have no problem with cages at all, infact we do crate both dogs when we go camping. I shall look into getting a crate for the bedroom for her.

My dog sleeps on my bed but is created when we go out. Before we discovered the crate she would mess terribly if we left her on her own, think she was having a bit of a tantrum, but she never does it in her crate. Also, she went to stay with my mum when I went away and mum put her in the crate at night and said she didn't mind going in at all.

Give it a go!

Thing is she will do it wether we are there or not. Its not a seperation problem, as for example this morning she did it whilst we were sleeping and then again when I was downstairs and OH still in bed. She will also do it in the front room if I am in the kitchen. She can get to me at any time she likes, its not like she gets shut in a room away from me, she wanders around where she likes.
My son is a very early riser and his first chorse is to let the dogs out in the morning. He can let them out, pop upstairs to go to the loo and by the time hes come back down shes done it again.
In all other ways she perfect but this drives me mad.
