my mare fills her stable with wee everyday she gets two big bags of shavings a day and im starting to get low on money now as is costing quite alot has anyone got anything more absorbant but still quite cheap i cud put in instead or with shavings (vet has checked and has said shes fine)

My goodness what a nightmare. I use Bedmax which is not cheap but the wee doesn't seem to spread right through like it can with shavings.

thanks think ill give it a try costing extra thirty pound nearly with all the shavings getting through

dry sawdust on the floor to soak up the wee then put your shavings on the top!

i got a messy one like this and was just costing too much with shavings so have changed to rubber mats and then with small layer of shavings (usually half a bucket) and then a small bed of straw. the shavings catch the wee so it doesn't go anywhere and he still has a small bed to cuddle up in.

OR just go with straw- way way cheaper.

Are you on rubber or rubber mats, if so you won't need so much shavings down and try leaving the wee in for a few days, if i took the wee out every day i would probably get through as many shavings as you.
I skip poo out every day but only do the wee twice a week, make sure the bed is put back together nicely with any wet patches covered in dry shavings that are already down, i get through 2 bales of shavings a week.
I did use Bedmax but found the wee would run out cos it's more of a chunky chip so he is now on Snowflake which is alot finer than Bedmax and very much more absorbant.

My girl is very messy too. We have rubber mats and a sprinkle of shavings. The shavings and gravity do the trick re the wee. The mats must be comfortable as they all lie down on them. Save a fortune in bedding and, in our case, as importantly, in time - takes five minutes to muck out

hmmm think i might have to invest in rubber mats. her problem is such a fussy mare if stables a mess she stands and refuses to go bk in till its a nice clean bed grrr

. for sum reason when she has straw she box walks like mad. im thinking gelding may of been easier hehe.

My mare is very clean (doesn't wee in her stable!) - its my gelding thats the minger!! I changed to wood pellets last year and wouldn't use anythng else now - saves me not only time but money - not often you can say that about anything to do with horses......
