I took BBB to the Deverills today (Wiltshire people will know where I mean) for a good canter session and met 2 Icelandic ponies. Their tolt was amazing to watch and the owner/riders were so lovely and pointed out some great rides for me to try.
I've never seen an Icelandic in person so didn't realise how dinky they were (dad described them as overgrown Shetlands lol) but you could see just how solid they were, the owners/riders were telling my parents that the bigger of the 2 (about 13.2hh) could carry 18 1/2 stone!
so if the owners/riders are on here or anyone knows who they are, it was lovely to meet you today and thanks for pointing out a route for me :D

I hope you didnt call them ponies to their faces !!!! We've got quite a few on the books at work and the owners go apoplectic if we call them ponies !!! (if we are feeling mischievious sometimes we do it for entertainment!)

They are super cute though arent they - Id love one !

I met one once when I was out on my generally sensible tb. We were bimbling happily down the road, when this fuzzy thing came round the corner towards us at a rather rapid tolt. Didn't help that Icey was wearing hoof boots either-this was before my horse had his own pair and knew what the noise was!

My poor chap was rooted to the spot with his eyes on stalks, wondering what the hell was coming towards him. It looked like a horse but didn't move or sound like a horse, so it must be something scary!:D

Bless him, he has his moments.

Don't believe everything you hear  I have 4 Icelandic horses and I find the claim that any of them could carry 18.5 stone to be ludicrous.

Not sinking to their knees is definitely not the same as being able to carry this weight of rider IMO, one of mine is a rather big Icelandic and I still wouldn't let anyone over 12 stone ride ride him.

Oh and I definitely call all of mine ponies, even the one who is almost a horse technically :D

I've had 2 (RIP) Only one could tolt. I'd love another one, apparently I'm not allowed  They obviously are ponies it's just there isn't a word for pony in the Icelandic language.
