Yes- one of mine was precsribed it last year - its basically a type of painkiller/antinflammatory I think- Worked really well and very quickly. Very expensive though (I used it in a liquid form). My horse does not eat normal bute but will eat Danilon, however Metacam was very palatable and he ate this with no fuss at all.
We have just finished a prescribed course of metacam for a leg injury on our horse. Mixed in with his feed he didn't notice it was there. We had no side effects although we were warned to look out for diarrhoea and appetite loss. Seemed to do the job .
How many mls did you have to give your horse? We've got loads of metacam for our german shepherd....my horse has thrown 2 splints .....maybe i could give him some?
Blimey! 2 yrs ago I adopted a little moggie who'd been in a nasty RTA and had a compound fracture of his hind leg. Owners abandoned him in the vets saying it was too expensive to treat as he was only a cat. He came home with me still in an external fixator and on THREE DROPS of metacam daily, which he would lick off the spoon! Didn't know neds could have it too, but can't imagine the quantities they would need! Mog fine now though he does have a sexy wiggle when he walks. He was in the vets so long that any tablet put down on the worktop he will walk over and eat it. Teaches you to be mega careful if you live on extra strength Ibuprofen like I do!
The metacam syringe is marked by horse weight so his dose was correct for his size (500kg) Not sure how much liquid this actually was, will have a look when I go to the yard in a bit.
