Lolly was pawing the metal gate in her field and got her foreleg trapped through one of the higher up bars. (As the lower bars are quite close together I NEVER thought this would happen) Luckily my daughter was there and managed to keep her calm (She's a calm horse anyway) and eventually released her, with just grazes and scratches, but what if no one had seen her?...............It doesn't bear thinking about. Or if it had been my other horse, she would have freaked out and probably broke a leg!! I have also seen people use these gates as part of a stable................If you have them, please either board them out or move them.

yes, agreed, please please put mesh across them, it only takes 5 mins and might save you a fortune (or worse).
i had a mare put a back leg through a metal gate (one of the ones with horizontal bars and a V) and skin it, it cost about £800 in vets' bills to put her right...

I know a horse that did this and pulled it's hoof off

OP I'm glad your horse is ok and recovers quickly

Popsicle was the gate one with just horizontal bars or diagonal struts as well?

Just horizontal bars. nearer together at the bottom but wider from about 3ft up.
