We are in the process of deciding what to reroof our stables with...the existing onduline is old and getting brittle and we now have a few leaks. Does anyone have experience of metal roofing and if so please could you let me know your pros and cons compared to onduline? The boxes are of prefab wooden construction. Thanks very much!

We have exactly the same problem with our stables. Hubby is looking into re-roofing with corrugated metal sheets so I am very interested to see any replies you get to this thread. we have corrugated sheeting on our field shelter and hay store which works fine although both the field shelter and the hay store are single pitch roofs rather than a /\ shape so I'm not sure whether it will be difficult to actually re-roof the stables. The only drawbacks with the corrugated sheeting is that it is noisy when it rains heavily and in cold weather there is some dripping condensation in the hay store, although it doesnt seem to be a problem with the field shelter.

Metal corregated roofing can be ok for stables but you will find that in cold weather you will get loads of condensation forming & it will drip. There isn't this problem in field shelters because you don't get condensation to the same degree as in a stable. Ideally you would need to double skin the stable roof with plywood or similar to prevent it happening but this inturn would increase the price. Additionally when you fix corregated sheeting to a roof do not nail through the valleys as when water runs down them it will leak into the stable. Put your fixings through the crests, you will need longer fixings but you will me more watertight.

At the stables we're at someone re roofed a rug room in metal corregated sheets & fixed through the valleys, needless to say we have a condensation problem as well as some leaks when it rains. :(
