But a friend is trying horses with them at the weekend - wondered if anyone had any feedback, good or less so

I know the names but not the individuals - if she sees something she likes I'll probably get dragged along to look at it

There are one or two yards I've warned her off, knowing a bit about them, but I don't have any views on these two.

Friend is a hobby rider, but has done ok. Last horse bought as a 6yo ex-eventer, she took from prelim to Adv Medium, qualifying for REgionals at every level, but he's now chronically unsound. She's a good caring home, and is keeping him as a field ornament. She has good trainers and facilities but not a lot of time, and wouldn't be the bravest - not nervous about a few spooks and bucks but couldn't cope with something proper quirky.

She's looking for something which will take her to top hat 'n' tails level one day, but not necessarily a winner at this level. She doesn't really want to start from scratch with a complete baby, ideally something working at Elementary say. Her budget is up to 20K for the right horse, which I would say she should get something for - like I say, she's not looking for a world-beater, only a rosette machine

Both have very very good reputations. Both will be able to find her a good horse that will suit her riding and ability and aspirations. Both are among the best dressage dealers around. She'll be in good hands at either place.
 
I've looked at horses at Mette Assouline's. She was very helpful, allowed me to take my time, everything she showed me was very nice but, as luck would have it, nothing was quite suitable (not her fault at all though, just one of those things, one was too green, one was too big and the other was a possible but it would not hack out).
 
Both are local to me and as Halfstep said, have good reputations.

Like with everything as long as your friend is up front about her own ability, what she wants and what she doesn't want then they could both find her the right horse.
 
My new 4yo is also from Garry (got him in May)
I'm v v pleased with him. He is exactly as described & what I said I wanted.
I know a fair few people who have bought from him & haven't heard any negative feedback.
Make sure she tells him exactly what she wants & how she rides. If he hasn't got what she's looking for, he'll keep a look out when he's out buying.

Highly recommend.

Garry tends to have 4yo, 5yo or 6yo, rather than older/ schoolmaster horses, but he will look for you if he knows what you want.
Website not always up to date - my horse is still on there & I bought him at the end of May.

So better to call & ask what he's got at the moment.

Assouline's tend to have older or schoolmaster horses. Not been there myself, but I've only heard good reports.
 
Haven't heard bad things about either of them but I highly recommend Garry. He mainly deals in Westphalians.

My horse (in sig below) comes from Garry and yes he is a typical WB in many ways but is very talented and very trainable and has a lovely temprament as well.

I'm tentatively putting out feelers for a new home for my 7 yr old dressage horse due to my (human) baby selfishly taking up all my time - most inconvenient. I say tentatively because I will only sell him to someone lovely, otherwise he will stay with me until I have more time for him. But he is now ready to go out and compete regularly and I feel sad and guilty that I'm not finding the time to do it myself - such a waste of a lovely horse.

When I read your post, I thought he might be ideal for your friend. He's a gorgeous 17.1hh, chestnut, Hanoverian, loads of potential for a keen amateur (will take her to PSG, possibly more, but probably not to London 2012) and a lovely, lovely temperament, safe, sane and easy to ride. Incredibly friendly, almost to the point where it's a bit annoying, esp when you're mucking out or poo-picking in a rush! Hacks out alone, 100% in the scariest of traffic, but occasionally finds butterflies a bit alarming. Just qualified for the winter regionals at Novice level, works Elementary at home. Also does a bit of jumping and loves it!

PM me if she doesn't find what she's after at GW/MAs yards.
