Mice and rats, how best to eal with them

Hello, I seem to have a bit of a mice/rat problem. I am a bit squimish about rats and mice generally, but dead ones espcailly! Do you think I am best to use poison, or has anyone tried the ultrasonic devices?

Eradirat and Eradimouse. The sonic jobs dont work well enough and they will just keep finding ways round it all.

Im sorry to say that poison tends to be the best option.
 
Definately poison... unless you have got the super rats that we had a few years ago! They used to get all excited when we put poison down & hoover the whole lots up... Shame it didn't kill the little loves!

I had the cat on my lap sitting in the feed room quietly. Then a HUGE rat crept out from underneath something. The cat stood up, and then sat down again as if to say "If you think I am going to tacke that you have another think coming!....."

Can't say I blamed her, it was enormous.

I don't see any evidence of rat droppings, so I suppose she does discourage them from calling usually.
 
I always used to poison them but with our latest batch of unwanted friends, we've used a trap. And its absolutely fab. I was all scathing when hubby brought it home and said I bet we dont catch any. But the girl in the shop where we bought it said to put peanut butter in it before setting it. And wow we caught mice and rats every day for a week, one night we got 2 in at the same time. Now you have to deal with dead things so might not be great for everyone but safer than poison if you have other animals around.It is made of black plastic and goes off with an incredible snap, so dont test it on your fingers

Poison and traps are quite effecitve but you do then create issues if you have the possibility of other animals around. Also while you will be catching them all the time you will continue to get new ones. The best thing that we have found over the years is a cat or three. Also found they can be very useful companions for something on box-rest.

Totally, totally agree that cats are everything against mice! Two years ago we lost our two cats within weeks and we had mice waking us up in own bedroom a few months later! Incredible how they return when there are no cats...Now we have 3.

I do use poison high up in the rafters of the barn, my wood shop, etc...but the cats really do the job!

Mmm I have a Border Terrier as well as 2 puddycats. At my old yard there were mice living in a bank by the wood. She used to sit by a hole, pounce on a mouse and smack it against a tree trunk. She ended up with quite a pile one day

we have two cats on our yard, both feral rescue cats, both have the best life imaginable and we never see mice or rats - but have seen evidence! mice poo!! oh apart from dead mice/rats on the floor in the storge barn that you tread on in the morning when your half asleep, CRUNCH!! :P

Here we have dog and cat but they do not deter rats from turning up so they get fed neosorexa rat packs (we call them rat lunch boxes) but the new peanut butter flavour one is said to be inviting and good.
