Michael Peace and Loading Problems

Hi, has anybody used this guy for overcoming a loading problem? Just got new horse who is fantastic in every way apart from not very keen in going in the trailer but travels fine when in! Is he similar to Richard Maxwell and does he give you a guarantee like Richard Maxwell does? Any thoughts/opinions welcomed as I need to sort this problem out ASAP, its stopping me going out having lessons/competing and it's so frustrating!

Gosh, no wonder my friend was annoyed with him. I don't think it was Richard's fault though and was more than three months down the line.
 
Believe you get a 3 month guarantee with loading if you follow his instructions after the initial consultation re practise etc. I have only ever heard really positive success stories about Richard Mwxwell and loading. You know somebody who's obviously had a different experience!
 
Sorry, I realise my post came across slightly wrong. Yes, she was annoyed, but I don't think it was due to richard or indeed my friend, but an owner in-between. (ps. Edited my post before I saw your reply). I haven't heard anything bad otherwise, but people can be funny.
 
Hi had a friend who used Michael he was really good - very patient and horse loaded after hours of work. However, within a very short time (weeks) things went back to normal - horse wouldn't load - friend really frustrated. Turned out horse had DJD at age of 7 and was PTS'd. Michael was really good and my friend doesn't regret having him work on him; but he was really expensive; so maybe worth elimating everything else (medical included) before going down that path.

But Michael was apparently really patient and good.

firstly if Richard were to come out and it wasn't successful he wouldn't charge at all regardless of the travelling distance.

Once he has established the loading and everything was going fine he would then train the owner to do the work for themselves. he would then leave a program of work which is normally to load a minimum of 10 times a day for at least ten days. then load regularly even if you are not going anywhere so that you establish a pattern of correct behaviour. there is no point changing a pattern of bahaviour then not loading again for a few months as the chances are it will go wrong.

if after those instructions you have problems he is available to talk things through on the phone, if this is not successful we do a revisit, there is no charge for this, we fit the visit around his next visit to the area.

we probably do about 6 of these revisits a year, apart from the rare occassion its been the owner just missing some small aspect of the training out.

As we always say, there is no such thing as a quick fix, we can only start the pattern of correct behaviour, its then the owners responsibility to carry on the work. 99% of owners do just that.

Hi there, I'd just like to add that Michael Peace did exactly the same for my friend. He didn't leave until she was able to do exactly the same (in other words he taught her how to do it), it's just the horse had a medical problem dianosed about six months later in the end - so nobodys fault! It speaks volumes for Michaels way with horses as within a couple of weeks the horse wouldn't follow/trust her with exactly the same program.
 
michael peace is brilliant. i sent my youngster for some ground work as she is very opionated and we were having more and more disagreements. anyway she came back a different horse. we will still have the usuall youngster problems but the reaction is much better. him and his wife are really nice if you give them a call they will talk through your concerns. feel free to ask me any questions
 
Michael Peace and Richard Maxwell are both good and methods are pretty similar. I would agree with whoever it was that said the training has to be consistent and ongoing though - and it can all be undone by one bad experience.
 
I don't know of anyone that has used Michael Pearce, but many years ago my Icelandic pony (grey in my signature) refused point blank to load back in our box after taking him to the forest. I ended up having to hack him home! It was in the days before Max did visits, so I bought his video and halter and followed his training methods doing plenty of groundwork before loading the pony. The first time it took me 25 minutes before he walked into the box and after that he has always loaded himself. The technique has been fine-tuned over the years and, but the principles are the same. I have been to recent Richard Maxwell demos and have been very impressed - if I had a really difficult loader now, I would definitely get him to come out, money well spent in my opinion.
 
Hi, we have been practising loads ever since I've had her, some days she's better than others but I need to be able to know that she's going to go straight in every time. She's got the potential to be an extremely good dressage horse and I need to sort this out sooner rather than later. I've had bad loaders in the past that I've perservered with but I've decided life's too short when I need to be getting out now with her. Girl in previous yard had Richard Maxwell for a really bad loader and she's never looked back but was just asking about Michael Peace cos don't know how long it would take for Richard Maxwell to come out.
 
Loch Pearl was looking at having Mike Peace or Max, Mike was cheaper but coming from further away. Mike is one of the nicest people you could meet.
