My mare has various issues with her cheeks (inside and out) and I'm thinking of getting one. I have read all the previous posts about these bridles and don't want this to turn into a debate over whether they are liked or not, but would appreciate some clarity over some finer points I can't work out....

firstly - are they BD legal? I know they are FEI approved, and can be used for BE or BSJA, but am still unclear over BD (I get confused easily!).

Secondly - essentially what is the difference between the competition and the multi bridle. It seems to me the multi bridle comes with a load more stuff, but is cheaper? Is the quality any different?

thirdly- how do they fit? Is my 16.1 TB a standard horse or a small horse/cob. she would be between a cob and a F/S normal bridle.

and finally (!), do you know if it is possible to rent one from anywhere to try before you buy? I don't want to end up with yet another gadget and 48 things that would have done instead (am sure there are many of you who know what i mean

).

many thanks for your help!!

I have just bought the multi bridle; it comes with lots of bitless kit which i won't use and also a noseband ring for lungeing. It comes in brown and black without reins. The competition bridle only seems to come in tobacco which i didn't like but with reins (no bitless stuff or lunge ring) The multi bridle was £120 and comp bridle £135. I have a 15.2 IDxTB who is fine in the small horse/cob. Not sure about BD though, sorry! PS I love mine and so does my horse!

I'll be watching this post with interest because although in theory I like the idea of a bridle that is more comfortable for the horse, when I look at this bridle I can't see how it can be that much different to using one of the comfort bridles on the market with a mexican noseband, as the noseband on the micklem looks like a modified mexican to me. If anyone could explain if it has any benefit over this I would be interested. Sorry if hijaking the thread but I thought it might be relevant to the OPs question too.
Oh and edited to add I would doubt but don't know for certain its BD legal.

I sell them out in Norway and they fly out of the door. I have The Large Horse Competition Micklem in Black (yes they do sell in Black also, just earlier only in Brown) for my huge headed Mr Darcy (bay in sig).

Fits him beautifully and looks super comfy, I am sold on them. Having said that I know a few people in the UK that say they have rubbed, none of my customers have mentioned this and I have not had it happen on my horse.
