Micklem Bridle and Full Cheek Bit

I don't think the clips would work in the same way. Isn't the whole point of a Micklem to alleviate pressure points including the poll, and the keepers are to increase poll pressure?

My mare has a micklem with a full cheek waterford for jumping. I don't use keepers, but I am sure you could - they would go on the bit straps quite easily.

The bit clips keep the bit still and transfer some pressure to the nose if he really takes a pull. I use the the bit clips on my younger horse when jumping, for this reason.

Keepers stop the cheeks rotating/ moving, and add a tiny amount of poll pressure. The head piece of the miclem is broader, so the pressure would be milder, but it would still be noticed by the horse, IMHO. (I decided not to use keepers with the waterford, becuase it would make the lip shelf of the mouth piece lie uncomfortably in her mouth )

I don't know about the bit as I use a snaffle with mine, but do check the usage of the bit clips with the competition bridle, as last I heard they were not allowed in competitions. They may have changed that ruling though.

Hi there, I'm looking at investing in a Micklem competion bridle, but my mare has a Happy Mouth full cheek, would I be able to use this bit with keepers with the Micklem?

Would be grateful for any answers before I spend out!!

I am going to order one tomorrow (hopefully i am treating myself if i pass my exam anyway - fingers crossed) I have contacted William Micklem about use of this bridle with full cheeks and he says that its fine and can be done you just attach keeprs to the leather bit straps. So i am going to try this, I am struggling to decide what size to order though ?? standerd horse ? he is a 3yo Appy X TB in a full bridle/ headcoller currently so will standart be enough or should i go large or?? just not sure I dont want him to grow out of it,

What do you all suggest???

Slightly hijacking your post OP so i'm sorry...

Can you use the normal Micklem Multibridle for competition (I'm thinking mainly low level BE dressage), as long as you don't use the clips? Or is the Multibride out and out banned, and I would have to buy the Competition version?

Either can be used but for BD no bit clips allowed on either one.

Such an old post so don’t know if this will be picked up but how do you fit the bit clips with full cheek as bit didn’t sit right when I tried with them in the normal place- do you fit them where keepers would go?
