Hi there users,

I was wondering if anyone could clear up on the use of bit clips on the Micklem Bridle as regards with British Eventing.

In the rule book it states:" Snaffle/Micklem Multi-Bridle with permitted Bit and without Bit Clips."

This seems pretty evident, so I have always used mine without bit clips for one horse in BE. But I have heard rumours that you are allowed to use the bit clips for the Showjumping and Cross Country and people have done?

NOTE: For those who don't know, the bit clips are simply a little clip that attaches the bit to the nosepiece, so only a certain amount of pressure is applied to the mouth, before it is then applied onto the nose. So almost like Kineton noseband which is allowed with BE.

Here is a video if you do not understand or would like to learn more- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqAO79Yp7tA&feature=youtube_gdata_player

As far as I am aware the bit clips are illegal for the dressage phase only, thus you can use them sj and xc. The rules for bits/bridles in the dressage are obv much stricter than for the xc jumping so I've always assumed that's corect.

Thanks, do you know if it's written in the rules? I was always confused (if that is correct) as to why they wouldn't allow that but allow Kineaton nosebands etc!

Have you asked for clarification on the BE forum? They're usually really good about responding to rules based questions on there :)
