I used it as a normal cavesson, you don't have to put it in front of the bit, it worked fine doing it up behind the bit for me.

One of mine rubbed when I did that, the skin was pinched between the bit and the strap.

Did you leave the leather bit there or just the metal hoop ?

I don't really understand your question. If you leave the leather there you need to buckle it up or it would be flapping. I cut through the stitches from the side and took it off.

No I meant the tiny bit of leather which attaches the metal loop. Lol tricky to explain on here. Xx

I leave the D rings on, but if you're certain you never want the bottom strap again then I would take them off.
