Has anyone tried a micklem bridle on a head shaker and did it make any difference? I like the fact they avoid the major nerves on the face that can contribute to head shaking. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated as nose nets, supplements etc have made no difference and the biggest improvement I've seen is from simply plaiting her forelock when I ride. Also any tips on where to get one from? Thanks :)

Mine used to constantly shake their head in then up for most of the ride. Can honestly say the Micklem stopped it straight away, after trying different bits, teeth back etc.

I've been thinking about one of these for my boy but he's an xfull - does anyone know if they cater for big heads - more specifically the browband area?
How is it to put on? Is it any easier to put on - I struggle with my partners horse that I ride because I'm only 5'3 and he's huge, so it's always a bit of a deal putting his bridle on, and I can't stand on something as he has a tendency to nudge you off but he has no other jockey :(

Certainly no harder to put on than an ordinary bridle, if anything slightly easier. Rally not sure with regards to sizing to tell you the truth, they are a funny shape and sizes are not quite what you would expect. That being said the browband could be replaced with any old browband if that's the only bit you have trouble with

They come in Pony, Cob, Horse and Large Horse sizes. I've measured up my own Large Horse (17hh with a bloomin' huge head) and the Large Horse should fit him so you may be OK. Now all I have to do is save up enough cash for one :D

You can hire the Micklem bridles for 1 or 2 weeks. If you don't want to keep it you just return it. I did this and you just pay the full amount as a deposit and if you are unhappy with it you get your deposit back on return of the bridle. But after the first time i rode in it I knew I wanted to keep it!

I find it easier to put on, and it seems far less fuss. The sizing seems to be slightly different but I think they cater for the larger head too! I sent a photo of my horses face, the cavesson measurement that she wore before and what size bridle she took and they worked it out from that. I can pm you the details of the lady I bought mine off if you like?

Are they true to size? Mines a 16hh tb but with a broad face! She usually in full size. Also, for competition do you have to use the specific competition one?

Lots of handy info from everyone on here - sounds like they should fit him as it's mainly the brow band area he's too wide in. If you could PM me the details Emma that would be great - think he'll have to trade in some of his old wardrobe to earn the pocket money for it!!

I'm hoping to try one on my boy soon before spending the money on one! not sure how he will get on with the noseband.

anyways do you know if the multi can be used as a competition bridle if you don't use the bit clips?

If anyone is still reading this thread could you PM me the person who you hired one of these bridles from? My husbands TB is a head shaker in the summer - a nose net makes the difference between dangerous and hackable - but he is still in discomfort and rather irritating to ride. I would love to find something to help him feel better. thanks

I have one for my headshaker, not 100% sure it has cured it but she does seem a lot better and she does go very nicely in it, so must like it
Mine is 15.2 cobx and a standard horse fits fine and browband is nice and loose. I was surprised how nice the leather is after reading some reviews but it was lovely and supple after a couple of soapings

You can use any browband on them if the one that comes on the micklem was too small.

Have you tried giving your horse Piriton? We have one like this and the nosenet helps but the only thing that keeps him settled is Piriton daily. You can buy it in boxes of 500 for about £10, I give mine 6 tablets a day and it makes a big difference.

Thanks everyone, size wise, my horse is a full size bridle with cob cheek pieces (jeffries bridle) do you think she'd be the standard horse size?

Ive got a micklem on my mare in a normal bridle she is between a cob and full, cob because she doesnt have a very long head but full because she is broad. I bought the standard horse size and alhough fits on the lengh, noseband and browband, the throat lash strap is on the loosest hole, i could have gotten away with a large horse as she has two holes left at the top for the cheek pieces also more alteration on the leather straps that hold the bit on if that makes sense ;)
