Micklem Bridles

I am about to unleash my opinion on the Micklem: it is an exceptional bit of engineering.

IF, you think there is something fundamentally wrong with the traditional bridles that have been used successfully for years.

Sorry if I am wrong. I'm practising my opinion skillz.

My horse head shakes alot, and he also (hard to explain) almost grabs the bit and violentlly shakes his head to slap his lips together at times:confused:
Very hard to explain but I was told this bridle may help

Well, you could try it but your boys behaviour sounds more like he has an allergy or the wrong size bit in his mouth... or worse, a back problem or something.

They are actually excellent. I know of a variety of horses that are far happier in one - some that like to be against the hand and some that tend to be fussy or behind the contact. As far as I know you need a competition bridle for dressage but a multibridle is fine for jumping and different bits are not a problem.

Back, teeth, tack etc fine, he does it randomly throughout the year, sometimes
when working sometimes when out :confused: odd ball.

Ok, so what triggers it? Can you think of particular things that set him off? evenings? mornings? weather conditions? Seasons?

Anyone use? Bought one today! Is the multi-bridle ok to use in comps? I'm sure it isWhat are the sizings like? I bought a large for my large horse and it fits after I put it on correctly! Can you use it with any bit? Only used it with a snaffle so far but don't see why other bits can't be used.
Thanks!

I bought the competition Micklem as this is padded and has a nice feel to it. The shop owner did say they are about to go up in price so if you're going to get one, do it now. There was a second hand one going for sale on ebay.
Last time I looked it was fetching a decent price so I'm sure you'll get a large chunk of your money back if you don't like it.

I honestly couldnt pin point it, its odd...I probably havent explained it properely, he is a bit spesh tho!
I think he may do it from excitement, ie before jumping, feed time, hacking on way home... But then he does do it at random boring times too!

I am excitedly awaiting the delivery of a Micklem competition bridle for my horse. I have had my tb for almost 3 years and have always schooled in a plain cavesson with loose ring ns lozenge snaffle bit. I have had regular lessons for the entire time I have owned him and I have struggled to get him to accept a contact and use his back end. I have felt all this time that my lack of skill as a rider must be to blame or there had to be something about the tack or bit I was using. (I have had his saddle checked regularly, his teeth are done every 6-9 months, his back looked at by 2 seperate physios and the vet to look for lameness issues)
I ride in a grackle when I hack as this helped to give me a little more control without using a stronger bit and it occured to me that he seems to appreciate the stability that the grackle noseband gives to his bit. However, he will stop every now and then to rub his nose as I think it causes a little discomfort to his face. So I wanted to find a solution and my instructor suggested the Micklem bridle.
Last weekend a good friend of mine brought her Micklem bridle over so that I could try it out and I admit I was doubtful. I was shocked at how much difference it made! My friend commented that it was the most uphill and connected canter she had ever seen my horse do! (that's saying something as he's naturally built downhill) He wasn't perfect but tbh I haven't been able to do a lot of schooling lately as he is recovering from a slight setback (pedal bone imbalance) and I haven't had a lesson for about 9 weeks because of this. I will happily report back once we've been using it for a couple of weeks.
As for whether it is competition legal, I am sure more educated people than me will be able to comment but I am sure that the Micklem competition bridle as the name would suggest is fine. I am not so sure about the multi bridle.

You should try a Micklem bridle I use one and I love, there is a website that hires them out. Google it and it should come up!
