But I can't decide from all the posts on here or reviews. I'd like one to lunge in and do in hand work as well as possibly bitless as well as general use as I like the idea and fit if them.

But I don't have a clue what size to order. Lottie is a connie and looks like she has a small head, but she takes a cob sized bridle which is on the top of the cheek pieces and loosest on the noseband with a snug brow band.

Any ideas?

Yes, I would say the standard horse size, they come up a bit small. I use mine as a bitless and it is great :)

When I measured up, I used this guide...

"Measuring instructions for the Micklem Bridle: Measure the distance from the bottom point of the protruding cheek bone on one side of the head to the bottom point of the protruding cheek bone on the other side of the head, going round the front of the head.
Under 27 cm (10.6 inches) = Pony
27 - 29 cm (10.6 to 11.4 inches) = Small Horse
29 - 31 cm (11.4 to 12.2 inches) = Standard Horse
31 - 33 cm (12.2 inches to 13 inches) = Large Horse
You can use a bridle that is slightly too big from cheek bone to cheek bone but not a bridle that is slightly too small."

Can't quite picture what you mean? However she def would be better in a full sized noseband and brow band and there is room for adjustment in the bit attachments too isn't there. I'm excited I'm getting it for Xmas from my hubby!!!

I just couldn't get the micklem sizing to work for my horse, the standard horse fitted him length ways and the nose band sat in the right place but the cheek strap was far too small, I couldn't even fasten it. So I ordered the large horse size and again really struggled to do up the cheek strap, it was a squeeze on the loosest fitting. But then it was too long and the nose band sat far too low down. I suppose I could have asked a saddler to alter it but I couldn't be bothered- he's happy in a standard bridle- and I've never had a problem fitting those.

Atlantis... Whereabouts in Leicestershire are you?... If you aren't too far away from me, I could let you try my standard on to check for sizing... I'm North west Leicestershire.

I have a small horse one for one of my connies & he would normally be in a cob sized bridle - there isn't much room for adjustment but it fits him fine

I have standard horse for my full/cob conny x tb mare. She's more of a small full or a large cob though. The only thing she really needs a definite cob in is noseband as she's got a conny face so broad forehead and narrow nose.

I'd say small horse for you if you're on top of the cob bridle.

I have the small horse size and it fits my 14.3 WBxTB, a 15.2 trakehner, and a 16.1 WB with quite a fine head. So I would probably go for the small horse size for yours.

Thanks all. I think it's between the small or standard horse then. I think he's ordered through hire a Micklem and you send them a photo and they advise on size. I'll check with him. I was thinking standard horse because really her noseband is too tight (she's only worn it a couple of times for lunging) and the brow band really is too tight. I've watched the you tube stuff on it and Mr Micklem said that there is more play on the length than the width as it were,
