Micro chip what's your views would you get your horse done

Someone told me yesterday that the pikeys that know what they're doing know how to remove the microchips anyway so there's little point.

Mine was done before I bought him though. It's quite cheap to get them done so I would as a matter of course anyway.

yep, all mine done as soon as they are old enough.
They can't be dug out without causing huge problems as they are put deep into the ligament.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that microchipping's going to be compulsory for foals from next summer, but I might have dreamed it!

My dog's chipped, and we had a tag on his collar, but an RSPCA inspector told us that it's not a good idea to have a tag on, partly because someone might try to dig it out, but mainly because if a thief knows about the chip they may take the animal further afield.

If you need to change the details you need to find out who holds the data and update the records. Have you got some kind of certificate with your ned's papers? The RSPCA, any vet or even your local dog warden might be able to help.

I think a simple change of address is about a fiver, but change of ownership is quite steep.

Freezemarking is visible and can be read by anyone. Microchipping is not as good as there are about 6 different systems the scanners of some will not recognise the microchips of other systems.

99% of stolen freezemarked horses have been recovered.
