Can I ask who has their horses micro chipped? How much is it in general? Do they object more than a normal jag?

Any other pros and cons?

Considering getting my 2 done so just wanted to do a bit of research first.

We have both of ours done, i think it cost about £25ish, neither objected to it, infact we did 1 in the field with a head collar on.

I think mine was about £15-20, he didn't really seem all that bothered. The vet said they use the same needle to put the MC in as they do for kittens lol. It was only once it was all over he seemed to realise what had happened and then went all girly about it

£17.50. Generally the vet will put a little bit of local in first - horses aren't quite as easy to pin down as a cat if they react!

£15 - gave no problem, but he was already out for the count as I had him vetted, gelded, chipped and his jabs started at the same time - saved on the bills.

Like all things there is a slight risk of infection but I have not heard of one happening.

I had mine both chipped and freezemarked - but Chancer is a fairly sort after type being a nice traditional cob.

I had 3 done 2 weeks ago

Foal, yearling and border terrier (equine vet did mutter that it wasn't a horse!)

Border did try and bite the vet, all had same sized needle and hopefully nothing untoward as a result. Foal bled a bit as we had to ear twitch to keep her still. Yearling just looked very offended (gentle soul).
