Hi

Sorry if this has been posted before or is just a dumb question!

I have recently bought a new horse and am about to send off his passport to register myself as his new owner. However I was wondering what happens with the microchip database? Do the passport company notify the microchip people that I am the new owner or is there a way for me to do it?

Just thinking that if god forbid he should ever get stolen, but then scanned I would want to make sure the details came back to me not someone who owned him yonks ago!

Also do many of you have yours Freezemarked as well as chipped?
Thanks:confused:

It all depends on who did the micro chip, if it is someone in the UK, identichip etc then you need to notify them, if like one of mine the horse is from Ireland, the chip was linked to my horses passport so they updated the info. Best off trying to find out what chip it is and what company it is registered to and contact them direct.

Your horse should have come with a certificate re his microchip; there is usually a section on the certificate for change of ownership but be careful to check how much they charge for this, some charge a fiver, others £15 (outrageous rip-off)

Hi there
No certificate came with him unfortunately, just the passport. Passport was issued in Ireland though so have contacted the passport people to see if they can shed any light.
Thanks

I think it is pretty standard with the Irish that the passport board also hold the chip details. Mine for example is a green passport, he was also DNAd and chipped. When I changed his passport into my name - I also had to name him which was the costly part, I googled the issuer and filled in the forms that I needed and sent all special delivery with the Euro amount. Everything was updated and sent back within a few weeks. I called them to ask about the chip and they said that it was all updated with the passport.

Off my head I think this might be the link http://www.horsesportireland.ie/bre..._I_change_the_registered_owner_on_a_passport_
