I had my gelding microchipped when he went to be broken in, but have noticed recently that where the micro chip was put in he has now got a raised lump which feels to me like the actual chip is trying to burst through the skin .Has anyone else experienced anything similar. I am thinking of getting the vet back in to take a look as i am unsure if this is some sort of reaction to the chip and his body is rejecting it?????

Friend of mine bought a gelding. He had a lump on his neck, she just thought it was a bite or something similar, he wasn't bothered by it and there was no discharge so she kept an eye on it. Then about a month later she noticed it had swelled a bit(a warm day), so she prodded it, some pus came out so she thought it was a boil or such like. She fetched some cotton wool & warm water to bathe it, whilst doing so she noticed something in the middle of it. So she decided to squeeze it a little, then a microchip popped into her cotton wool ! She was amazed as she wasn't expecting that. Needless to say she's glad she saw it happen & is loathe to have on re-injected in case he rejects it again & she doesnt know.

I went to look at a horse who had a lump where he'd been chipped 2 1/2 years' previously.

It didn't appear to bother him, although he was quite nervy so not easy to tell, but I have to say I didn't like it and it was one of the little reasons that added up to me not buying him in the end.
