Just following up on an earlier thread and a post from Spider Monkey re. whether or not you need to microchip your horse before travelling to Holland - 'Does this mean that anyone taking horses to a competition in Holland i.e. Ede, Breda, Boekelo has to have their horses microchipped before leaving the UK if they want to be able to bring their horses home?'

As I understand it, it is not a legal requirement, but if anyone has experienced otherwise, please tell us what happened!

I've never heard this before. I can only assume this is a new thing. Will be interesting to see how this affects imported WBs if this is the case.

Hi
To my knowledge it isn't EU law yet, certainly not just for a competition, although it is of course recomended! It is an interesting one though......

It is now a legal requirement for all horses in France to be microchipped. Which of course does not apply to horses coming for a competition. But if you import a horse for good, then you will have to microchip him if he is to stay on French territory.

That would make sense. Horses in transit don't need microchipping, therefore the WBs who are exported through a French port wouldn't need to be micro-chipped either.
