I am thinking of having one of my horses microchiped, I've had the others freezemarked but having seen how it's done I really dont think Jack could handle it, he's a total wimp! I thought microchipping would be a better way to go. Would be interested to hear your thoughts on the idea plus any experiences good or bad! xxx

My horse is microchipped, a simple process that identifies your horse easily. The downside is that it isn't a visible deterent like freeze marking so it doesn't have the same deterent value. The upside is that you don't have the unsightly brand on your horse. Your decision really?

Mine has both!!

Saw one the other day with a lump where he'd been microchipped (like a grape under the skin, chip is meant to be the size of a grain of rice and undetectable)...
Didn't appear to bother the horse in the least, but it would upset me as an owner! Fitted by equine vet while under GA. (All this I am told by the owner, but have no reason not to believe them.)

I have both - chip and freezemark. Freezemark as visual deterrant and the chip cannot be interferred with.

Chancer was under a GA being gelded at the time. Jemima did give a large jump and bled a little, but she was a very sensitive soul.

I had a microchip done recently on my mare who is the biggest wimp ever when it comes to injections or vets.

We took her out of her stable to do the injection and after a few attempts, she stood as tall as possible and vet was only 5'4 we got it in, it was over and done with so quickly i was so relieved.

It really isn't as bad as it looks and its over in seconds. Less stress for the horse i think.

Just had mine microchipped. The vet gave him a local first so he wouldn't feel it and to be honest he didn't flinch twitch or anything. There was a bit of blood afterwards and he had a lump for a couple of days but you can't tell where he had it now.

it didn't seem to bother him to be honest with you and is done literally in seconds.
