I've been on a bit of a mission to try and find out some history and breeding of two of my horses. Had one success so far, my rescue mare is a trotter from Denmark by an American stallion out of a Danish mare. Found out lots via a post on here, amazing!! My question is where do i enquire about information on microchips. When i got my horses passport done 4 years ago vet put in a chip then scanned to make sure it was working and discovered she already had one (he should have scanned first i know). Never given it much thought until now but could it be a lead in finding out about her. Where do i start?

I managed to trace my boy through his microchip, however i knew what country he'd come from (chip will tell you what country it was insert in) so had somewhere to start but i contacted the microchipping manufacturers of that country with the number and one came back with dtails of where chip was sold to then from there i found out what vet it was sold to and eventually got in touch with the vet that doing the chipping and he had the records of his breeding etc and i was put in touch with the stud book and managed to get replacement papers for him

was a slow process and there were days when i wanted to give up but i did it and at least now he is what he is and not what some nasty dealer wanted him to be so he could make money on him
