Just passing through...
When I went to let him out this morning he just sat and looked at me. When I crouched down to offer him food I got a very low, very quiet warning grumble from deep in his throat, with just a fluttering of a lip. So, erring on the side of cowardice and quite liking my being without after market holes, I withdrew quietly. He came out and after a wander around was quite happy for me to put a lead on. He's a big strong lad and when he planted himself by the back garden gate I decided it would be better to walk him down to the local vet to see if he had a chip.
The dog was a good lad to walk, even in this high wind, being reasonably polite, but having no idea what 'Sit' meant, so as he was happy to stand quietly I didn't push it.
Got to the vet. He stood quietly to have the reader scanned over his neck. The vet nurse lady was very good with him

. The lady got the mobile numbers, but had no joy. I had overheard her say the name of the road, so took him that way on the way home. Walked all the way down one side of the road and whilst the dog was nicely relaxed he showed no recognition, so when I got to the bottom I rang the dog warden and he said he'd meet me at my house. As a last ditch attempt, I started walking back up the road. We'd gone about fifty feet when the dog walked through a garden gateway. First time he wagged his tail was when the woman answered the door. His eyes softened. He was home.
I've let the dog warden and the vet know that he's back where he belongs.
