In light or recent events I was thinking of having my pony freezemarked.
She is a cream dun, highland mare that I do show so was therefore going to have her micromarked.
She is microchipped.
How effective do you think the micromark is at deterring theives?

I don't have a clue... but could you not have it done under the saddle where it wont be seen in the show ring? (assuming its ridden...)

I had my horse microchipped but didn't get the micromark because of the cost. I now have him freezemarked as well with a personalised number as I felt that was more visible and memorable than the micromark as it is small. Only about one inch square I think.

Freezemarking or micromarking should not disadvantage a horse/pony in showing classes.

Personally I don't think the micromark is effective at all. Even if somebody understands what the mark means, does it mean they will have the equipment to read the chip?

We went for freezemarking - I don't think it as made any difference to this pony's showing career - and keeping her safe is much more important to me
