I currently feed a high oil supplement such as Baileys Outshine or Build & Glow purely to give my girls a lovely shine. I have just seen Feedmark do a tub of micronised linseed & if this would do a similar job it would work out much cheaper for me. Can anyone advise if there would be a downside to swapping to this such as vitamin/mineral imbalance or suchlike or whether it will do the job as well as as the Outshine?

Thank you

I feed micronised linseed (Equimins- 10 kg for about the same price as 4.5kg from feedmark!). As long as the rest of the diet is providing vits/mins then thats fine. I feed half a cup a day and they have a lovely shiny coat

Ah ok thank you, they get a balancer so their vitamins/minerals should be ok but something in the back of my mind is telling me that if feeding an oil supplement I should add extra vitamin e - not sure if this is correct but the Outshine already has it added.

Yes, you do need to balance oil with vitamin e but at half a cup you will be fine. Its only when you are feeding a large quantity of oil for energy that you need to provide extra vit e (as an antioxidant)

look up charnwood milling - you can get a sack delivered for £30 - its a 20kg sack - you give between 100-200g a day
far cheaper!!!!!

Would it be better for me to continue to feed a mixture of oils rather than only linseed - I've just seen NAF Omega Oil and wonder how that would compare

linseed is high in omega 3 and is good for joints - yours is only for coat shine i appreciate just dont feed too much veg oil/ corn oil as although good coat shine and weight gain they high in omega 6 and are pro inflammatories whereas linseed is natural anti inflammatory therefore good for joints.
dont think you have to feed a blend of oils no.

Linseed is very good for horses, its palatable and its oil content is anti-inflammatory (omega 3 and 6), compared to pro-inflammatory (omega 9) like some other vegetable oils. Also, NAF products are over priced imo, you are paying for the marketing.

I agree. If you look at the Naf webite they take good stuff that is cheap and easy to buy, package it up and charge you double!

I have heard that straight linseed is better than the oil.

I buy the micronised linseed form Charwood too.
