As title. My pony is getting quite stiff in his back legs. My vet thinks it is probably arthritis but I'm keen to avoid injecting joints if I can and looking for supplements to help him. I don't want to feed glucosamine and he is already having turmeric which I think is helping but he is still stiff. At the moment I'm feeding him 100g of micronised linseed a day but I've recently read that he needs 5 times that to be effective as a joint supplement (he weighs around 500 kg). I'm a bit worried that will make him pile on the pounds and as we are always watching his weight I'd rather avoid this. So, am I right in thinking linseed isn't effective as a joint supplement unless fed at this rate and if so is he likely to expand? If so what else can I give him to compliment the diet he has already which is:-
Fast Fibre
Honey Chop Chopped Oat Straw (Unmolassed)
Forage Plus Hoof Balancer + Vit E
Micronised Linseed
Turmeric
MSM
Yea Sacc
Any advice appreciated, thank you.
Should just add, he had his shoes off around 4 months ago and is doing fine now but was sore on his front feet to start with (possibly putting more weight on the back?) and also is stiffer now due to less turn-out.
