Seeing as everyone raves about it I thought I'd order some :) coming tomorrow, not sure how much to feed him though? He's 15hh medium build and doesn't need any extra weight atm. Currently being fed a scoop of dengie healthy hoof unmollassed twice a day with pro balance half a scoop in his dinner.

Was thinking maybe half a square scoop in both feeds? No idea what that is in grams though

Any tips welcome :)

I love micronized linseed but wouldn't feed it unless I felt my horse needed it - if your horse is doing well on his current feed why change anything? The oils in the micronized linseed are very good for the joints but it is quite high in protein and if you don't need any weight gain then I wouldn't be giving him more than about 100g a day which is about a mug full.

I was giving a mug full and my mare GREW!! Then someone on here said to give an eggcup full if all I was looking for was maintainance. I've settled on using a scoop that came with her pro hoof and I guess you'll have in your pro balance.

Thanks, well I've been told its good for overall condition and feet (he's barefoot) and maintaining their weight over winter, so want something that will help him maintain the weight he's at now without having to up his feed an awful lot :)

I give my 16.3hh sport horse (plenty of bone, athletic build but more like a light WB than a big chunk) a mug full split between two feeds per day.

As you say, it's good for coat, feet and joints . . . and the oil gives energy without fizz.

Honestly, I love the stuff.

My boy's on a bespoke diet and within it is 100gms of Linseed a day. He doesn't need anymore than this amount as he's enough covering on him, but it gives him what he needs omega 3 oils wise and as has been said, it's a good feet and joint supporter too.

He would love a mug full every day,...but no way is he getting it!! LOL

Weigh it , my 17.2 Tb gets 600 grammes a day if it's cold and he's going to the hounds twice a week if the weather warm and he goes hunting once I reduce it .
I would start with 100 grammes a day and see how you go.

Buy a tiny weigh scale [£3.00] and use that scoop, with winter coming on I would feed 100gms and see how it goes.
I think you will find that is two or three pro balance scoops

I use the free topspec pot you get from the feed shop and he gets 200g in his dinner. He's got such a shiny coat and just looks fantastic.

Edited to add.. He's a 16-1 WB

My big half shire gets a mug a day split between three feeds, but if any things made a difference to his ability to sustain muscle and look good, it's prob the comprehensive top spec balancer. I prob don't need to feed both, but he's spoiled. I'd drop the linseed before the balancer though ....

Does this cause them to fizz up at all? Horse does not need any more energy but ended up last winter like an RSPCA case so need to keep the weight on him. Don't really want any extra energy during the winter.

Well - I'll preface this by saying that all horses are different - but it doesn't heat Kal up, and sugar sends him completely round the twist.

It gives him enough energy to work and keep him in good condition, but not "fast fizzy" energy - more "stamina and ability to really try/work hard" energy.

I hope that makes sense.

Good info here, I will be trying this on my tb that I asked for help with on another thread, hope it will provide him with what he needs to gain some weight.

I currently feed it to my 2 and they both get a cup full a day. One is a tb and other a cob. Tb has it for general overall benefits and cob for his joints. They will be both changing feed over to allen and page veteran vitality which has added linseed so dont know whether to take them off it once bag runs out or feed both?
Is very good stuff and dont find it makes cob pile weight on. He looks just right at the moment.

I have both my oldies on it, 17 1 tb, 18+ yrs, recently gone bf, visible improvement to his feet, coat you can see your face in and beginning to replace the weight he dropped, he's on 2 mugs per day, my 20yr old arthritic wb mare is leaping around like a 2yr old on 1 mug per day, I have stopped her 1 bute a day, as she doesn't need it just now, my 3yr old cob gets a sprinkling for his feet, joints and condition and my 10yr old gets a sprinkling cos he doesn't like to be left out, brilliant stuff, different amounts give different results

P.S. If you make your own bread, try some linseed in it, you will soon have lovely skin and nails!
If going mountaineering, a lot of linseed in a loaf will last for a week in a snow hole!

i'm trying to feed my horses pretty much straights this winter, rather than ready made cubes. so wanted to make sure they got some fat and protein. they both have about 200g a day, 100g in each meal. my boys coat had never been so shiny :) and their weight seems to be staying good. used to add oil, but powder is apparently better and less messy. most guidelines i have read say 100-200g, but i may increase it as the winter draws on.
