Where do you all buy yours from and in what sizes? Is it ready to feed straight out of the bag?

I'm looking for it for my TB to help with weight gain/condition.

Is it known to heat them up?

If it is misconised it is safe to feed straight from the bag. If it is raw you have to boil it - either into a tea or a jelly. (Does anyone actually do that now? Used to be a big thing when I was a child!!)

I buy in 10Kg bags as all the horses have it in varying amounts - I've never found it heating. Cost effective too! Only watch that it doesn't go rancid if you are feeding smaller amounts - once open it will only keep a few months.

I buy mine from the local feed shop now but used to order online from this place, great service:

I always get the 20kg sack and feed straight from the bag. 1 mug a day in summer and up to 2 in winter as needed.

I feed it to my TB with no problems at all although I believe some have experienced then heating up.
It's not sugar/starch though so should be a good choice.

Wow - that's expensive! I pay £4.45 for 10Kg. But I do get it from my usual feed stockist rather than on line and obviously packing weight for post is an issue. I use Marriages micronised linseed. Just the normal one - they do one with herbs etc in it for much more.

I didn't think you could buy anything for 44p per kilo, are you sure it is a 10kg bag I pay about £4.45 for a kilo.

Marriages is not micronised properly, it is heated to a high temperature but not properly 'micronised' (I have asked them and their nutritional spec is different) Charnwoods have the only microniser in the country but repackage it for other people/brands etc.

I can get marriages for £13 for 15kg but it isn't what I want so I don't :p

We usually get ours from farm and pet place, no it isn't heating, I don't find it puts weight on a good day at a mug a day either.

We buy it from our local feed merchants but they sell Charnwood's linseed, I think you can buy Charnwood's online.

We've used it on a variety of horses with great results and didn't find it heating. I really rate it and will continue to use it over winter this year for all mine.

I think you will find you are buying 3.5kg for £4.45 not 10kg!

Standard volumes of Marriage's are 3.5kg and 15kg

Agree it is not quite the same spec as Charnwoods micronized linseed. It is cheaper and not quite as good.

It heat's up the odd horse, but is not typically heating. Good for digestive system, condition, skin, coat, feet etc.

Cheapest is to buy by the 20kg sack, ordering in through the closest feed merchant that will order it in for you. Ask for micronized linseed 20kg.

Kept in dry air tight location, and if feed a mug a day, should last a few months, and not spoil.

Yes it is worth pointing out that quite a lot of feed merchants do now sell it, I could get it from two places really close when we were in wiltshire, but it doesn't seem to have hit somerset yet :D

None of my local feed places stock it, so I usually get it on line from farm and pet place or GWJ titmuss. Usually costs me £25 for 20kg including delivery. I feed between 1 and 2 mugs a day, depending on time of year.

I get the charnwood linseed from Titmus but am local so collect it is about £20 I feed 1 to 2 mugs per day depending on how they look, both of my Arabs have had and have not noticed them get silly on it a lot of other feeds have but I find the linseed okay.

Actually in the US they feed it straight, no need to boil.

I used to buy Charnwood online, now tend to get from local feed store. Usually it's Marriage's. Good value and a 20k bag lasts me months.

My local tack shop sells it in tiny 2kg bags for about £7, ridiculously expensive!

It's micronised precisely so it's safe to feed from the bag :) Our TB gets a double handful twice a day for the same reason you are looking to feed it to your boy; it doesn't heat him up at all. He also gets soya oil in a feed of 1 scoop of mollichaff with 1 scoop of pony nuts and looks great right now....he lost loads of weight over winter and looked appalling. But the linseed has helped a lot, and best of all he really really likes it too.
Pics are 'before' and 'after', no criticism of the 'before' I know he looked bad.

Sorry here are the photos. Please no criticism/hate. I am well aware how atrocious his condition was and I still feel awful about it, but equally we were told he was a good doer ! :O
Anyways this is before micronised linseed + soya oil was added to his feed: (I want to say March 2017...maybe April, unsure)

And this is after: (June 2017)
