I read somewhere about some pet beds than can be put into a microwave and keep warm for 10 hours and wondered if these could be used to stop water buckets freezing?

They couldn't be wheat filled, for obvious reasons. Also have to keep them in a plastic protection of some sort to stop being damaged by water.

Anyone heard of these or used them?

I have one! It's called 'Snugglesafe' if you want to Google it. It pretty much looks like a fat frizbee and is about an inch thick and has a tough plastic outer. hadn't thought about putting it a water bucket, may be something to try!

The one I have is completely inflexible, so not so great for wrapping around- I know the type you mean though, like the microwavable pillows you can get for human aches and pains. I think the type I have may work quite well dropped in the bucket, it's quite heavy so don't think it would float, and has a tough plastic outer, may be an experiment for this weekend!

Let me know how you get on with your experiment Ruth_Cymru - I've got one too and it sounds like a good idea.

My only concern would be whats in it.
If the horse drinks all the water, or tips it up and gets hold of the disc, is the content toxic should they stand on it or puncture it with their teeth?
