Mid April - Are yours out 24/7 yet?

This is the 2nd night they have stayed out 24/7 - went to get them in and they basically told me to get stuffed, brought them in out of principle (so they didn't think they could get away with not being caught!) then they stayed out the night after that!

Ours are out - went out last weekend, still rugged though, medium weights in day & heavies at night. Mine's gone bit mad on the spring grass, lunged him tonight and he was doing his best brunco act - bucking & squealing!!

My chap has been out 24/7 for the last 3 days. He has a medium weight over night and, the last couple of days, no rug on at all during the day.

My girl is in at the moment, going out for the first time tomorrow.

Ours have all been out 24/7 for a whole year - maybe that's why we haven't any grass!
Most horses in the Highlands are out all the time with field shelters. They make very adequate field shelters in the North, but I must say, (as an ex-southerner), I still get panicy when I see fine TB and Warmblood types out in the freezing rain and howling gales.
True, they mostly seem to have the top of the range rugs on, but I have still seen some shivering, with bums turned to the prevailing wind.
I am a bit of a fusspot though, even over my own heftily built, well rugged heavyweight cob.
And even he came running down to me neighing for dinner and hay, on the worst days!

Take care what you wish for guys! Loadsa grass coming through can = colic (did for my boy!). And I hate to be the one to say it but the weather forecast is S-N-O-W for the weekend! Three cheers for global warming.........

Funnily enough i was looking at my spare field wondering if its ever going to grow this year. I am going through hay like its going out of fashion but dont dare move them on to the summer grazing as there isnt any.
Cant win, I moan when the clay fields are too wet then moan when theres no grass!!!

Well my mare has been out 24/7 all winter but I took her rugs off last weekend and she will stay naked now unless the weather gets really bad...but she does have 9 acres to herself and absolutely loads of grass!

On our yard they are never out 24/7, they have to come in every night although during winter day time grazing is not restricted so I'm more than happy with grazing arrangements.

Ditto above - however she is still in her medium turnout - which is probably good as I am having to keep her girth area covered until the wound fully heals

The 4 that were in at night over the winter are now back out with the others 24/7 as of 9 April, so later than usual this year.

Most of the fields are dry, still muddy round gateways, back field is low lying so still has some puddles but its massive so not really a problem. Ditches are still full though

mine are in- only a couple have gone out so far (there's 50 horses at our yard)

my field is quite dry at the mo- which is brilliant- and the grass is coming through- but Sol is still eating like an elephant inside, and just isn't ready to go out yet, and Red is on weight watch already.

hopefully, they'll go out middle of may, weather/solo permitting!

Mine dont go out 24/7 at any time of the year. They are out in the day and in at night. My main field is still too wet anyway so they go out in the school with haylage in the day at the moment. Just hoping for some dryer weather.

Ours haven't been allowed out in the field at all yet. We have turnout pens on the yard where they can go out for a leg stretch and haynet over winter. The Farmer says the fields are still too wet yet.

Only my old pony goes out 24/7 in the summer. Princess Tia is a liability and hurts herself if I leave her out, and I think the new boy will be the same - Their field is next to the canal - I have visions of him going off on a boat trip......!

Horses till in

But its been so cold and wet lately even tho ground has dried up loads, I just couldnt throw them out just yet.
Snoops stands by the gate at 4pm every day desperate to come in... Hes gonna hate me when hes out 24/7 again
