Well a lot of you who know me, know that I wont get on anything remotely silly, I dont do the getting bounced all over the place, I'm definately off rearers and those that buck.......

So why oh why have I taken a sudden career change from the nice warm confines of an office to working on a racing yard?

Yes you heard that right - racing yard, with fully fit, lively thoroughbreds!!!
I ride out 4 in total every morning... and yes I ache from top to bottom..... but will no doubt lose weight rather quickly and become a lot fitter too!

Today I have been bucked, bounced and jogged along, had a complete flat out gallop on a lovely lad who decided that steering was ok, but his brakes had failed! So I've gone from safe and quiet dressage horses and a retired racer..... to the ferrari of the horse world..... Now can someone please pass me some pain killers and some valium!

very well done and i am oh so jealous i really am. im debating all these options at the moment and would swap tomorrow if i could afford to. let us know how you get on.....and good luck, what a way to spend your day.

There was an Oh My God moment today when I suddenly thought this will hurt if I fall at this speed, but hey such is life...... God knows what is going on with me, as those that know me in real life know I have a crash test dummy ride anything before I get on it!!!! Well not anymore..... the Voltarol are working and I can no longer feel the pain in my back, right knee and my arms!!!
Everyone at my yard keeps saying I am the wrong side of 30 to be riding racehorses!!! I think I'm just the right side of 40 for an adrenaline rush!!! If this is a midlife crisis, its great fun!!!!!

Have asked OH if he will come along and take some piccies at some point..... so watch this space.......

This gang make my lot look like sedate little donkeys!!!! Well at least I have a nice quiet ride at the end of the day, on my own!!!!

Hey I'm a grandmother of two as well!!! Just wait till I tell them what Nannie has been up too!!! My daughter is going to have a coronary when she finds out.....
My mother has already had kittens, my son thinks I've completely lost the plot.... My OH thinks its great and has told me I will be so fit in a months time it will be unreal (saves on gym membership!) and my Uncle who is an ex jockey is over the moon about it all..... he's retired now and said if he lived closer, he would come along and help!!! Maybe madness is hereditary in my family!

You sound like you are having great fun - and being paid for it too, what a bonus! Have a great time while you can (son is friends with a couple from Scotland that do sidecar racing together - she is 65 and as strong and supple as an ox! An inspiration for us all I think; their outfit is called the 'X team Past It!!')
I don't think you're mad, just wish I had your bottle!

I knew you'd say that fiona, after all you know me! Its great fun, I thought the old bridleway next door blew the cobwebs away on Mr T..... however I think my insides are somewhere on a leicestershire hill as they got completely blown away today!!!! No brakes and flat out gallop!!! Now that has to be the fastest thing I've ever ridden!!!

mmmmmmm, yes that did flash through my mind today!!! But we were going uphill so there had to be a stop point at the top, otherwise it was over the hedge time! They reckon they'll have me back jumping in a few weeks, now one step at a time, cos i cant find my bottle for that one just yet!!

Good on you, Ovidius! I'm just the wrong side of fifty but having been made redundant in March this year, I decided I never wanted to sit at a desk again, so, after doing bugger all for a couple of months, I started putting ads on local notice boards offering help with horses......I'm now so busy I'm turning work away! I have three regular jobs providing me with more cash than working in an office, one "irregular" job, plus many holiday jobs lined up for next month and December (as well as this week, being half term). I love it, it's hard work but it's stress free! I may not be charging around on race horses (except for my daughter's two - something I never dreamed I'd ever do at this age!) but I'm living my dream of working with horses......even though it took many, many years to achieve!

Well Good for you

I am very envious.

I gave up riding work a long time ago but I absolutely loved it, I did have a slight confidence hiccup when a 2 year old bolted (the real thing) through Grafton village with me and nearly killed the pair of us, I quit riding the babies after that, a small degree of self preservation kicked in.

Enjoy those misty mornings

Well I have today off for various commitments that were already pre planned etc.... but god do I ache this morning!!! Will have to ride all mine later and ride through the pain!

wow - you will be getting fit

now just think of all those bacon butties and donuts you'll be able to eat without putting any weight on :-))

Unfortunately I have always been one of those that can eat and eat and eat and not stick on an ounce!!!! So roll on more bacon butties and cream cakes and biscuits and most importantly CHOCOLATE
