A rare mid-week show for Dum Dum tomorrow. We head to the Scottish Horse Show tomorrow which is just along the road from us. He is in with the big boys as its a mixed non-Welsh any breed youngstock class. But he will hold his own and hopefully not bring the 5th leg out 🙈😂😂😂

He isn't the biggest fan of a bath but he loves all the pampering after it so he tolerates it. He's also not looking too bad for a 3yo Colt who was a dummy foal that a vet said would be dead in 24hours without taking him into them for the best part of £1k a day for a minimum of 3 days 🙄

Is yours a mini, midi or normal? He is much nicer looking than my shetlands.

I seem to have acquired a mountain gorilla for a Shetland. I didn’t even realise you could get blue roan shetlands. I have this one as I am the queen of mean with Shetland diets and she had horrendous lammi so has come to me as we have Shetland Fort Knox on dirt. Joining her mini daughter who is my absolute favourite out of all the eventers and sport horses 🤦‍♀️. It’s probably because the Shetland is very chatty, super personable, funny and very clever. I also have zero expectations so is my experiment with clicker training etc so I don’t cock it up on the proper horses.

Strictly speaking he should be a full height standard. His father is 41.5in, his mother *cough*44in*cough*. But as it stands he is about 38in now. I am hoping he grows another 2in at some point. His mum grew 2in from 6 to 7yo.

Shetlands come in all colours except for spotted. The more unusual colours tend to be in the minis, standard breeders are a bit more snooty about things and want solid colours.

So the wee beasty did good! I like shows where you are in and out early doors 😂 Despite 2 rounds of bubbles for his bath he was still shedding dirt and dust out from his withers 😂😂 baby wipes to the ready! I also had a slight disaster when the zip on my trousers went so I had to ring my sister to do an emergency shop run and then zoom along to the show with some safety pins 😂😂😂 the trousers are a good 12-13 years old at least to be fair!

Dum Dum was a clever boy and managed to contain his 5th leg for his class - mixed M&M Youngstock Non-Welsh - to win that. Into the Championship and again he was very well behaved and only got his 5th leg out a little standing in line 😂 but not to be deterred he was pulled forward as Reserve Champion to a lovely big, big winning Dale's mares. Super happy with him and half way home already!
