I was debating whether to take Gin out to another competition this year or whether to leave it until next year. Gins last comp was in June, just before she had time off due to damaging her sacroiliac. At the time we were unsure what would happen to her and if she would ever be brought back into full work. At the beginning of september she had a steroid injection and was given the go ahead to bring her back into work. So after nearly 2 months of hard work I put in a late entry to go off competing today.
Yesturday I began to think this maybe wasnt the best idea. I have been suffering with a really bad shoulder, havent got round to going to the doctors yet, and had to get off Gin due to me being in so much pain. I couldnt move for the rest of the day. I took lots of pills this morning and off we went. Its amazing how we rest our horses when they are injured but we battle on ourselves.
Gin got so excited when she saw the box come out and as usual she took herself up the ramp.
We havent been to this venue before so I had no idea how she would react. I tacked her up and jumped on and off we went. It took her a while to settle in the warm up but she doesnt like working with other horses. Once she had relaxed she produced some super work.
We then went into the indoor for our test. She looked at everything but once the bell rang she put her head down and got on with the job. She had one spook and resisted in the left canter but apart from that she was forward and lovely and soft. We got 64% and 5th. Comments were a little low in the poll at times but that was on purpose to get her swinging through her back more and relax.
The onto the elementary. Gin had run out of steam by this point so was a bit lethargic but did a nice relaxed test to get 62% and 3rd.
Overall it was a very productive outing, we both came away relaxed and happy.
