First day of the Eurasian Catephract course today and it was excellent fun. Getting a bit better at the horse archery stuff, definitely need to practice the archery when I get home! Had to try to coordinate bow and shield and then bow and shield and sabre. I'm rubbish at that! It was fun though. Tomorrow we do bow and polearm stuff. The horses are well trained here but mine wasn't impressed with the dustbin lid shield this morning but had settled down by the afternoon.

I need to buy a warhorse! 😁

Cavalry training sounds incredibly cool!

I did my first solo hack on share horse! All 6 minutes of it 😂 Up to the end of the lane and back in the sunshine, OH stayed behind at the yard gate to wait for me so it was properly solo. Tiny step but I so hope it will add up with lots of other tiny steps to get my confidence up and us out and about over the summer. Very happy SP'D :D

Did xc and didn’t have a disaster. I have low expectations. In fact it couldn’t have gone much better really. First time on grass since I fell off xc last April but we’ve been working on flatwork and sj since then. Almost like a different horse - much more chilled, easier to get him focussed and listening and I was more confident riding him generally (I realise those things are connected!). He also didn’t get too clingy with the group. I think he may just have needed a longer time to settle and for us to get to know each other. I hope anyway, and hope it’s not a one off!

Started the day just wanting to get some practice being out in the open doing faster work, ended the day really wanting to go round a full course!

My hands are doing odd things which I need to work on, and I still can’t resist the odd pony club kick 🙈 but def an improvement and we did a few nice lines. A very positive start all in all 😊

Super weekend with my lovely boy.
Another great Howden Way training day- Dima VERY happy to see xc fences again! And then working on SJ and I am so pleased with us both- course is around 105cm, I'm so happy with the rhythm and forward feeling we had.

Then up the gallops today- the view was breathtaking but Dima was less impressed with 3 x pulls up a very steep 4 furlongs! 🤣
Certainly gave him a good blow and hopefully sets us up well for Broadway hill next weekend.

I've basically regressed to my 10 year old self and am doing all the horsey things I would have loved to do back then. I'm fairly rubbish at some of this stuff but I don't care because I'm still loving doing it and learning bits and pieces each time I have a go!

The only downside is that a lot of it is impossible to practice as I don't have my own horse. However, I'm currently thinking of ways round this, even if I just get a stool and practice stuff without moving! 😁

Simon is looking fab! I think you'll have another really competitive year of eventing

Thank you, I do hope so! So lucky to have a horse that can take me to some of the best venues in this sport. I have a short but selective calendar of events planned for him - don't want to overrun him, he's best fresh.

Those angled lines in your video look positively evil - where's your first run?

Late to the thread but Buzz and I spent the weekend doing our first ever camp! It was great fun and we even ended up winning the mini comp on the last day with a 67% dressage (despite him deciding he wanted to stop for a poo, on both trot circles!) and clear sj/xc, couldn't have been more proud considering he was the smallest and least fancy horse there!
He's also decided that horse walkers are the most terrifying thing he's ever seen and spent the whole weekend eyeballing the one they had there :D

Portman- he'll have a couple of 90 runs and we'll see what we've got. He's very capable but has only done 3 competitions in his life so I must remember that he's very green still!
