Midge bites in his ears

My poor boy has had his ears eaten by the midges over the weekend. The inside of his ears are a mess, very itchy and very uncomfortable. I've since bought a fly mask but is there anything else I can do to help relieve it? Thinking of bathing them then applying something? Sudocream? Vaseline? Or should I get them covered with the fly mask and leave alone to heal?

Second this, my little boy gets serverly munched in his ears but using this stops the swines entirely

I use a smear of benzyl benzoate, but not where the skin is broken.

I stick sudocrem in my mare's ears when they get eaten, sooths the skin and stops the little blighters biting. Does look a bit odd though!

Get some Neem oil and very very gently, using a sponge, apply to the insides of the ears and around the outside. Works a treat for my lot.

As posted above the nettex salve is great and lasts at least 3 days.

Thanks guys! I gave them a gentle clean with diluted hibiscrub which he just loved, would have stood for hours. Popped some sudocream on and a fly mask. Will get my hands on the Itch stop salve this weekend

The yellow summer fly cream is the best - we always call it Battle (it's old name) - comes in a blue tub. My mare is a witch about having it applied so wears the ears cut off an old fly mask attached to her grazing muzzle instead.
