You may remember me posting a few weeks ago about my GSD who 'wasnt right' and you were all very helpful with suggestions. The local vets couldnt find anything wrong, so I took her to a renouned horse vet.

She has severe ear mite infection which I had been treating (unsuccessfully) with Canural. A local Corgi breeder gave me some Thornit powder which began to work almost overnight, however, Mika's over exhuberant daughter was 'ruffing her up' out on a walk and caught her bad ear and almost immediately a haematoma appeared and her ear started to balloon.

Mika goes in for a GA today to cut the ear, drain the haematoma and have it stitched up. I have a terrible fear of GA's on my babies and when I questioned the vets receptionist yesterday about time/length of GA etc she was rather dismissive.

Mika's mother has also suffered for years with mites which would clear up with treatment only to return. She has had problems with gnawing her bottom too and after so many visits to the vets for tests, biopsy's, scrapings etc they scratched their heads. Treating her bits with Thornit has cleared that up too!

Any spare vibes for Mika and her GA would be soooo appreciated.

A worried Llwyncwn x

Sending loads of vibes to Mika. I am just the same as you about GA's. It is worth asking your vet to run pre-anaesthetic blood tests, these will pick up any problem that might cause a problem with the GA. Saffie went in for an op in August to remove a mass in her mammary glands. The pre-op bloods showed her liver function was poor so she didn't have the op then. After a short course of treatment her blood tests became clear and she was able to have the mass removed. Thank heavens it was benign. Will be thinking of you today, keep us updated on her progress.

Bless Mika - keeping fingers and toes crossed for her.
I had the same worries yesterday as my puppy was in for an operation on his elbow.
Let us know how she gets on x

Hope all goes well

Hope she makes a speed recovery x

Thank you for your vibes. Mika came out of GA fine, but has lost her modelling career. She could possibly end up with a rugby players couliflower ear or a floppy one.

Thank you MM, I read with interest. Yipster, how is the puppy? S&M, thanks hun.

Here are some pics of her tonight. I have 3 GSD's who are all in moult atm, so excuse the black rug. I have also taken cushions off sofa for her comfort

She has to keep blasted collar on for at least 5 days and stitches out in 10. If she manages to scratch stitches out, she will have to go through the op all over again.

Oh poor girlie!

Mine had a haematoma on her ear and they drained it by needle. Much less traumatic. Fortunately it worked.

I hate those collars! My boy had to wear one once and went ballistic! I took the collar off as I needed to preserve my house!

It is not good having a mastiff going ballistic in the house!

Hope Mika makes a good recovery.

Poor girlie ,but she will be living in the lap of luxury in Wonderland. She will have the best of love and attention .If only I was a dog at Llwyncwn.
I do hope you can keep her healing well and quiet, ear mites are a really bad problem and then this nasty haematoma. You have such a lovely family of dogs and I hope they are soon back to full health

That looks very sore, bless her for being a brave girly.
I also think her 'plese feel sorry for me' face is brilliant in the 4th picture.
Puppy is doing really well, thanks for asking. Just getting used to him having a bald leg like a plucked chicken at the mo!
Wishing Mika a speedy recovery x

I hope Mika is doing well, I just wanted to say my labx had exactly this problem though it was caused by trauma rather than mites, he had surgery and recovered in no time, his ear is pretty much as normal now, it just has a slight 'kink' that only I notice! It hasn't recurred and the ear has never bothered him since.

Thanks appylass, its good to know that your boy is back to normal now.

I posted this morning in vets about her as her ear smelled really awful, like rotten meat. Just now got back from the vets who sedated her to clean out. Her ear had leaked both within the ear and out and has caused a type of ecsema externally below her ear, so she has been shaved again

Poor baby, she is feeling so sorry for herself.
