Are dressage horses being trained to do cross country?

Years ago riders tried to train their cross country horses (who had probably gone hunting) to do dressage.

But that doesn't hold up completely because there were plenty of successful continental riders in 3 DE, that didn't go hunting.

Thanks for posting that link. Slightly off topic but do you know if anyone has considered the effects of calmers on safety. You often hear experienced riders say you need a horse that can get itself out of trouble and I wonder if that instinct is being suppressed by calmers being used.
